I failed. I failed so hard.
10.) Look Out For Rust
Rust, shmust. I'm in Ontario, and all cars rust here!
9.) Buy Good Tools
Look who needs to buy stock in Princess Auto (the Canadian version of Harbor Freight)
8.) Adding Speed Isn't Cheap
Speed parts are cheap (compared to a Tercel or something weird like that).
7.) Tag and Bag Everything
I actually do this. Classic Motorsports did teach me something.
6.) Someone Will Build Something Better. That's OK.
Since 84 Cutlass Sedans are scarce now, I'm not sure if this will happen.
5.) Don't Have A Project Car As Your Only Car
Surprise!
4.) It's Only Cheaper If It Works, Not If You Have To Do It Twice
Okay, I actually subscribe to this school of thought.
3.) Do Your Homework
I didn't. Actually, I bought the car on a whim. The mechanicals were mint, and it rode like a dream. I was supposed to buy an RX-7.
2.) It'll Take Longer Than You Think
I learned this the hard way.
1.) It'll Cost More Than You Think
Whelp, my bank account is in the toilet.
Forgive me Oppo-gods, for I have been foolish. But seriously, who hasn't done this once? Right, guys? Guys? Anyone? Bueller?

I fall under several of these too. This summer I'm gonna get back to restoring my truck I think. Fixed it up about 12-13 years ago but after being my first vehicle (teens are hard on vehicles), my stepdad using it as a work truck for a while, and general age a lot needs to be replaced or cleaned up. First up is the fuel system. Needs a new sending unit, rubber lines, probably hard lines, fuel pump (probably switch to electric with a hidden switch), and carb. I wanna switch it to "fuel injection" like the kits from Holley or Edelbrock but it's not in the budget.

Anytime you skip buying a rotary powered Mazda as a Daily Driver you DID NOT FAIL.

lol, they're really fun
if it's not your daily driver!!!!
And man you dodged a maintenance bullet on that RX7
They're cool, I get that, and I hear they can be a blast, but man people who own them are masochists.

1960s sheet metal technology happened. That, and probably its brief time in Florida didn't help. What you see in the picture is what happened when the previous owner started to cut small sections out and decided "lol fuck this". Hence the sharp edge on one side of the hole and debris on the other.

So I'm essentially born to be an RX-7 owner.
I'm ambitious, weird, and somewhat masochistic.

damn you'd be a perfect RX-7 owner, I take it all back (maybe even an RX-8 owner, how bad is your masochistic nature?)

So, did you buy this car? If so, pull the 305 and drop in an LT1. And step on it.

Yup, I bought it. Would an Edelbrock SBC manifold and a quadrajet fit on an LT1?

Well, you've stumped me there. My image was a shop taking a new 350 out of a box and installing it. Maybe some sort of slick polished aluminum highrise intake, but beyond that, I'd be at the mercy of the shop. And the Highway Patrol...

I learned to drive in a '77 Caprice. I've lusted after the Caprice ever since. Ford build millions of Crown Vics, but the cabins in the Impalas from '77 on were always a few inches taller than the Crown Vics and the Town Cars.
